Gridless is a private messenger that works over Bluetooth with no internet, no servers, and no accounts.
Getting started
- Install Gridless on two iPhones.
- Open it on both, and set a passphrase on each (this encrypts everything on that phone).
- On one phone tap Pair, then Show invite. On the other tap Pair, then Scan invite, and scan the code.
- You are connected. Everything you send goes directly between the two phones, encrypted.
Do I need internet or a signal?
No. Gridless never uses the internet. The two phones talk directly over Bluetooth. You do need to be within Bluetooth range of each other (roughly a room or two; walls and bodies shorten it).
Why did my chat go offline?
You moved out of Bluetooth range, or the other person closed the app. Anything you type while offline is queued and sends when you reconnect. Step back into range and, if both apps are open, it reconnects on its own.
Does it work when my phone is in my pocket?
Yes, while you are in range: lock the screen or switch apps and messages still arrive as notifications. If you fully close the app (swipe it up and away), the connection ends until you reopen it.
Is it really private?
Messages are end-to-end encrypted and never touch a server. Someone nearby can tell a Bluetooth device is present, but not who you are or what you say. A stolen, unlocked phone can still expose messages, so keep your phone locked.
How do I verify who I am talking to?
Open the safety number and compare it in person or on a call. If the numbers match, no one is in the middle.
I forgot my passphrase.
There is no recovery by design, not even by us. Use "Erase and start over" to set up fresh (this deletes the rooms and history on that phone).

Free to try with anyone. Gridless Pro keeps a room connected in the background: 7 days free, then from $9.99/year, or a one-time Lifetime purchase. One person's Pro covers the shared room for both. Manage or cancel anytime in iOS Settings > your name > Subscriptions.
Deleting data
Settings > Delete all data erases every room and message on that phone, instantly and permanently. The other phone keeps its own copy of your conversations.
